Sydney Ormsby has shown what she can do on a soccer field.

The freshman is the second-leading scorer on a LaGrange High team that is one victory away from a second consecutive region championship.

Ormsby also knows what to do with a set of golf clubs, as she showed during the Granger Invitational on Thursday at Highland Country Club.

Ormsby led LaGrange with a 79, and she helped her team finish in fourth place.

“Sydney, it’s amazing,” LaGrange coach Thomas Crocker said. “She hasn’t even practiced, and she shot a 79.”

Blakely Arp, a senior who is heading to Point University to play golf, added an 84.

Ally Arp shot a 103 to give LaGrange a team score of 266.

Eileen Hwang shot a 113 for LaGrange.

Central-Carroll won the team title, and it also had the low medalist, with Ainsley Cowart shooting a 4-under par 68.

Bremen finished second.

LaGrange will continue its season after taking some time off for spring break, and it will compete in the region tournament in April.

Last year, Arp qualified for the state tournament as an individual, and the team is much deeper this season, so LaGrange could make it to state as a team.

“The exciting thing is, the pressure won’t be on Blakely to have to qualify for state (as an individual),” Crocker said.
