Troup overpowers Chapel Hill

DOUGLASVILLE – Cooper Doughman blasted his fourth home run of the season to lead the Troup Tigers to a 12-4 road win over Chapel Hill on Thursday in a Region 5-AAAA game.

Doughman hit a two-run home run in the top of the first inning as Troup plated five runs to seize the early lead.

The Tigers continued to add to their lead, and they capped the scoring with four runs in the seventh inning.

Troup (14-5 overall) improved to 6-1 in the region, it remained one game behind Cartersville.

The Tigers finished Thursday’s game with 11 hits, and leadoff hitter Ryan Bliss had three of them, and he also walked and scored two runs.

Luke Purnell had two hits and an RBI, and Cade Garner had two hits, and he scored two runs.

Colby Williams had a hit and three RBIs, Caleb McCurry had two RBIs, and Brantly Robinson had a hit.

Garrett Casey got the start for Troup, and he pitched five innings and allowed five hits and two runs with four strikeouts.

Colton Webb finished things off with two innings on the mound, and he gave up two hits and two runs.

Troup will continue its region schedule today with a home game against Cedartown.

Troup will take a break from region play next week, although it will be busy with three home games.
