Durham, North Carolina, based songwriter and guitarist Jon Shain will perform an intimate folk-blues concert at Pure Life Studios in LaGrange on Saturday evening.

The award-winning songwriter and acoustic picker is touring in support of his latest CD release, “Gettin’ Handy with the Blues — a Tribute to the Legacy of WC Handy,” which went to No. 15 recently on Sirius/XM’s Bluesville chart.

Shain had the good fortune to learn directly from a number of North Carolina’s older blues players, and became a member of Big Boy Henry’s backing band. He can turn out versions of country blues classics, but especially shines when playing his own memorable songs.

“I met Jon at a singer/songwriter conference last year and had more fun watching him perform and just loved his delivery and interaction on stage,” said Maggie McDonald, owner of Pure Life Studios.

“We have had a pretty good response to blues at the venue, and I am looking forward to more good times and good music.”

Shain was a finalist in the 2009 International Blues Challenge in Memphis and is the 2008 winner of the Triangle Blues Society’s Blues Challenge and 2006 winner of North Carolina’s Indy award for Best Folk Act.

Shain has shared stages with the likes of Keb’ Mo’, John Hiatt and Jackson Browne.

The concert will be held at Pure Life Studios, an acoustic listening room, located at 206 Clark St. in the Hillside community of LaGrange.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and music starts at 7:30 p.m. The concert costs $15. Seating is limited, and it is highly recommended that you purchase tickets in advance.

Once you get to the venue, it is cash only, and there is no guarantee of a seat without advance tickets. The event is brown bag approved, and coolers are welcome.
