They’re champions again.

The LaGrange Lady Grangers got a late goal from Caroline Thompson to beat Cartersville 1-0 on Thursday night to win the Region 5-AAAA championship for the second straight year.

It was a scoreless game until Thompson scored with 12 minutes remaining, and Cartersville was unable to answer.

In the boys’ game, it was Cartersville winning 5-1 to secure the region title, and LaGrange finished second.

Jimmy Cancino scored LaGrange’s lone goal.

LaGrange’s teams will finish the regular season with home games today.

LaGrange’s boys’ team will play Smiths Station, while the girls’ team will face Spencer.

Both LaGrange teams will be at home for the first round of the state tournament next week.
