Harmonica great, Dr. Dixon, to play at Pure Life Studios

Dr. Dixon, featuring Frankie’s Blues Mission, will play a blues concert at Pure Life Studios on Friday at 7:30 p.m. 

Dr. Dixon, known as the “Blues Physician,” has played on stage with artists like Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf and John Lee Hooker. He was a regular fill-in as a harp player when they would pass through the Atlanta area on tour. 

As for the band, Frankie’s Blues Mission well, as the name implies, these gentlemen are on a mission. Their purpose is to present the blues, jazz, R&B and zydeco in the best of the African-American tradition. 

“This idea of having a blues joint was formulated between Jontavious Willis and me. We wanted to bring in the blues musicians from around the country to recreate the good old juke joint vibe,” said Maggie McDonald, owner of Pure Life Studios. “The artists have been curated by Jontavious Willis who is a well-known blues player around the globe.”

The first half will be a listening-room-style show and the second half will be swinging and dancing to the blues. 

The concert is to be held at Pure Life Studios at 206 Clark St. in the Hillside Community of LaGrange. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and music starts at 7:30 p.m. The concert costs $20. Advanced purchase of tickets is recommended. The venue it is cash only.
