WEST POINT — A boil water notice is in effect for the city of West Point following an early morning water main break on Roper Avenue.

According to Assistant to the City Manager Kristen Lester, the break was first reported by a city employee around 5:30 a.m. Thursday when he noticed water levels were dropping. Shortly afterward, a resident reported the same thing.

Low pressure and water issues continued throughout the morning until the service was restored around 1:20 p.m. 

“The break has been repaired and pressure is coming back,” Lester said, noting it would take a several hours before full pressure was restored.

Due to the break, a boil water notice was put into effect. 

Citizens are advised to take appropriate measures by boiling water to be used for human consumption, including food preperation and dish washing, for three to five minutes and be allowed to cool before using.

The boil water notice, according to Lester, will remain in effect until further notice and could last for more than a day if necessary.

The city of West Point will let residents know when the advisory is no longer in effect.
