Supporting local veterans through fishing

Everyone can use a little support now and then.

On Saturday, the sixth annual Take a Warrior Fishing event was held for veterans and their families to enjoy a day at Highland Marina.

The event was held to give back to veterans and for them to relax and meet new people. About 34 veterans participated and were given a rod and reel, tackle bag and t-shirt from the Take a Warrior Fishing Foundation.

While the wars are over and uniforms are put away, service man and women still have the memories and years of experience in active duty. It’s not an easy job, whether or not they’ve even seen combat.

Being in the military means moving every three to four years — including their families — putting on a uniform every day and responding to a chain of command.

Something as simple as even a fishing tournament can be an easy way to say thank you.

Supporting veterans in any form, from thanking them for their service to holding the fishing tournament, goes a long way since they sacrificed a lot during their service.

We appreciate the local veterans who have served and thank the Catch a Special Thrill for Kids Foundation for putting on the event.
