Fee free weekend at Earl Cook Recreation Area

The US Army Corps of Engineers at West Point Lake announced this week that it is waiving the day-use fee at Earl Cook Recreation Area over Father’s Day weekend, June 15 – 17.
Earl Cook Recreation Area is located at the end of Lower Glass Bridge Road, off US highway 29, south of LaGrange. The park offers a swimming beach, picnic tables with grills, boat ramp, volleyball net, basketball court, tennis court, soccer goal, baseball field and two pavilions for rent.
“Earl Cook Recreation Area is one of the largest of three beach areas located on West Point Lake and underutilized by the public,” said Supervisory Park Ranger David Barr.”
According to a press release from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the purpose of this fee free weekend is to increase visitation to the park and give the public exposure to all of its amenities.
One of the most popular beach areas, Yellowjacket Creek Recreation Area, often reaches full capacity in the summer months and has to be temporarily closed and traffic diverted to other parks at the lake.
“If the weather is good and public willing to explore Earl Cook Park, hopefully this weekend will take some pressure off of Yellowjacket beach and be a destination for future visits,” Barr said.
