LFD makes final round of CFAI accreditation

The LaGrange Fire Department has made the final round of accreditation from The Commission on Fire Accreditation International, or CFAI, according to a press release from the City of LaGrange.
Only 222 out of nearly 30,000 fire departments in the nation receive this accreditation. If approved, LaGrange would be the 10th fire department in Georgia to receive the honor.
Agency accreditation is a voluntary process. According to the CFAI, accreditation shows the agency is performing to industry best practices and is holding itself accountable through an external peer review.
“I’m very proud of our men and woman who worked tirelessly for more than five years to receive this distinction that less than 250 fire departments have received,” said City of LaGrange Public Safety Chief Lou Dekmar. “It shows that the LaGrange Fire Department provides a standard of care and service that is consistent with excellence spanning all departments from operations and administration to planning and budgeting.”
LFD started this process more than five years ago and on Friday made it to the final round of accreditation.
A CFAI team leader visited LFD Thursday and Friday and will recommend the LaGrange Fire Department to received accreditation.
The final step in accreditation is approval from the commission on Aug. 8.
“We’re very proud of what we’ve accomplished,” said LaGrange Fire Department Deputy Chief John Brant. “Our team leaders feel very confident.”
Sgt. Mike Webb is the LFD Accreditation Manager and is proud the department made it to the final round of CFAI accreditation.
“This is not the end of our journey to excellence,” Webb said. “This is just the beginning.”
