City of LaGrange employees will hold a voluntary litter clean-up day Saturday, July 7, 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.
The group will pick up trash starting at Hollis Hand Elementary School on Country Club Road past the bridge to Highland Country Club along West Point Lake.
This event is a voluntary event for City of LaGrange employees.
The City of LaGrange plans to hold monthly litter pick up events with its employees.
In April, City Manager Meg Kelsey wanted to send a message to the community that the City of LaGrange is serious about cleaning up litter and rolled out the city’s campaign, “Leaving LaGrange Better Than We Found It.”
The City of LaGrange closed non-essential business the morning of April 20, and more than four hundred employees picked up trash throughout the community.
In June, city employees along with many other volunteers from the community started at Berta Weathersbee Elementary and picked up trash along Forrest Avenue to the Callaway Clock Tower.
“As employees of the city, we have an opportunity to do something about it,” Kelsey said. “We need to create a sense of responsibility and ownership for roadways and other public areas. City staff has the opportunity to send a new message to our citizens and visitors.”
While April’s event was mandatory, the monthly litter pick-up events will be voluntary. Family, friends, and the public are all welcome to participate.
LaGrange Mayor Jim Thornton, Troup County Commission Chairman Patrick Crews, West Point Mayor Steve Tramell, Hogansville Mayor Bill Stankiewicz, along with Troup County’s Keep Troup Beautiful, have joined forces to help clean up the litter in the community.
