Man killed in shooting on Lexington Park Drive

A man was shot and killed Wednesday night in the area of Lexington Park Drive.
The LaGrange Police Department responded to a call of shots fired into a vehicle around 11:51 p.m. and shortly after received a second call about a person lying in the roadway on Lexington Park Drive, according to a LPD press release.
The victim, who has not been identified, had gunshot wounds to the torso and was transported to WellStar West Georgia Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, according to the LPD press release.
The first caller told police that there was a vehicle in the roadway with an individual who appeared to be working on a vehicle, but as they approached, several men opened fire on their vehicle. One of the three people in the car had a cut to his foot but the other two were not injured, according to the press release.
“They ran up on this car that appeared to be posing like it’s broken down and as they get closer to the car somebody steps out of the edge of the woods and they realize and believe at that time that it’s about to be a robbery,” Strickland said. “They tried to hurriedly drive by the car that is set up in the middle of the road and all of a sudden the suspects open fire into the car as they drive by.”
The second caller alerted police to the wounded man, who was lying in the same area where the original shooting took place, according to Lt. Dale Strickland with the LPD.
The victim is a black male is in his mid-30s and weighs around 300 pounds with tattoos on his arm and neck.
Strickland said the man has ties to Mississippi, but his identification has not been released.
The suspect or suspects have not been identified at this time. Strickland said they sped away from the scene in a dark colored car.
