Mrs. Lurie R. “Lou” Cook

Mrs. Lurie R. “Lou” Cook, age 97, passed away on July 26, 2018, in Tampa, Florida.

Lou is survived by her two sons, Steve (Cheryl) and Jerry (Linda); son in law, Sam; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three loving sisters and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest W. Cook; and her daughter, Pamela Cook Keel.

Lou had resided at Grace House ALF for the past two years. She was born on March 6, 1921, in Genoa, West Virginia. Lou graduated from Wayne County High School. In 2000, Lou and Forrest retired and moved to Tampa, Florida, from LaGrange, Georgia. Formerly, Lou worked for the Troup County Board of County Commissioners in LaGrange.

Lou was a great family person and a loving mother. She married Forrest in 1944, and the couple had three children together, including a daughter, Pamela, who died in 2014. Lou was a member of Chapel in the Pines Presbyterian Church of Tampa and was actively involved in the church’s food bank program, as well as many other charitable activities.

She enjoyed cooking for and hosting her family. Her friends will always remember her as a loving, accommodating and caring person whose home was always open to friends, family and guests. Grandma Lou always had a table full of great, home cooked comfort food.

A visitation will be held at Blount & Curry Funeral Home Carrollwood on July 3 at 11 a.m. with a service at noon and committal service to follow at Florida National service.
