Mrs. Martha (Mott) Hendricks Gregory

Martha Hendricks Gregory, of LaGrange, wife of Donald R. Gregory, died on July 10, 2018, at the age of 87.

Born in Pickens, South Carolina, on Aug. 17, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Nannie Jones Hendricks and Paul Oswald Hendricks of Pickens, South Carolina.

After graduating from Pickens High School, she attended Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, earning a bachelor’s of arts degree in voice. She taught school for three years before marriage.

She was a member of First Baptist Church on the Square where she sang for the church most of her life. She was formerly active in the WMU serving as director for a year. She was an active member of the Ruth Sunday School Class and served on the bereavement committee for many years.

She was a former member of the Tabard Book Club, Woman’s Club and served on the steering committee of the LaGrange Symphony Guild.

Surviving in addition to her husband are three daughters and sons-in-law, Motsy and Jack Hanna of Amelia Island, Florida; Anne and Scott Tiffin of LaGrange, Georgia; and Donna and Bob Foster of Birmingham, Alabama. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren, Carlton and Adam Smart of Phoenix, Arizona; Jay Hanna of New York, New York; Brittain Leverett of LaGrange, Georgia; John and Jessica Leverett of Tucker, Georgia; Julie and Brandon McCurry of LaGrange, Georgia; Evans and Sawyer Smith of Birmingham, Alabama; Robert Foster of Birmingham, Alabama, and Thomas and Lauren Foster of Wichita Falls, Texas; great grandchildren, Bodie Smart of Phoenix, Arizona; and Jane Elizabeth Smith of Birmingham, Alabama. She is also survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Carolyn and Earle Furman of Greenville, South Carolina; and Julie and HJ Lark of Clemson, South Carolina.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church on the Square on Thursday, July 12, 2018, with Dr. Paul Baxter and the Rev. Cade Farris officiating. A private family burial will be held at Shadowlawn Cemetery prior to the memorial service. The family will receive friends following the service in the sanctuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church on the Square or to charity of one’s choice.
