Former LaGrange High softball standout Emily Anderson has been nominated for a major national award.

Anderson, who was an all-ACC softball player during her senior season at Georgia Tech, is one of the nominees for the 2018 NCAA Woman of the Year award.

Out of the hundreds of nominees, 10 finalists from each of the NCAA’s three divisions will be named.

From there, the group of nominees will be narrowed to nine, and the Committee on Women’s Athletics will select a winner from that group.

Anderson, who had a sensational senior season as a pitcher for the Yellow Jackets, graduated in May with a degree in biology.

Anderson was the ace of the staff, leading the team in nearly every pitching category.

She was 19-17 with a 2.24 earned run average, and she threw six shutouts.

By the time Anderson was done, she ranked fourth on Georgia Tech’s career list with 462 strikeouts.

Anderson was a four-year starter and an all-state player at LaGrange.
