Chattahoochee Riverkeeper is offering a program called “Bat Search by Boat” on West Point Lake on Thursday, Aug. 9 from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Guests are invited to come aboard Chattahoochee Riverkeeper’s floating classroom to look and listen for bats. LaGrange College professor Mark Yates will provide acoustic detection equipment and a couple spotlights to aid in the search. 

Participants will also learn about some Georgia bats and enjoy the evening as night arrives and temperatures cool off. Participants are welcome to bring their own food and drinks. The cruise will depart from Pyne Road Park located at 4481 Roanoke Road in LaGrange. 

The cost of this cruise is $15 per person. Those interested may register online by visiting Chattahoochee.org (events tab, CRK watershed outings, general watershed outings). Preregistration is required.

Since launching in 2015, the West Point Lake Floating Classroom has served over 10,000 students and adults by delivering unique, hands-on environmental education programs and guided lake tours. Become a member of Chattahoochee Riverkeeper and support scholarship seats for underserved students — for many, it’s the only field trip of their school year.
