Support for The Thread continues

Ideas can become a reality when people work hard and fight for them. In Monday’s edition of The LaGrange Daily News, we wrote about the Dancing for The Thread fundraiser that took place Saturday night.
The event raised more than $17,000 for The Friends of The Thread, which helps maintain, plan and keep up community relations of the planned 29-mile walking section. The event sold out days before it was held, which had community figures dance for votes, with $1 equaling a vote. Judges also scored the teams for two.
Having an event like this sell out and raise so much money shows the community cares about the project.
Bob Goehring, who originally came up with the idea for The Thread, said on Saturday that about this time of three years ago, he had emailed the Troup County commission chairman, Patrick Crews, and LaGrange Mayor Jim Thornton about building a trail for the community.
Two years ago, The Friends of The Thread was established, and the model mile built at Granger Park was completed last year. With two segments finished and being used, and the third segment being worked on, it’s evident that the majority of the community supports The Thread. The fundraiser shows furthermore how much the trails are used.
We’re glad people showed their support for The Friends of The Thread Saturday night.
