VALDOSTA – It was a productive road trip for the Lafayette Christian School Cougars.

Facing Georgia Christian in a region game, Lafayette Christian built a 28-0 halftime lead on the way to a 48-0 victory.

The Cougars improved to 2-0, and both of their victories were against region foes, putting them in solid position to try to secure a spot in the Georgian Independent Christian Athletic Association state playoffs.

“It was pretty crisp,” Lafayette Christian head coach Nate Shaw said. “Our defense was swarming and tackling. Our offense and defensive lines worked both sides of the ball really well. We generated turnovers, and offensively, we were pretty efficient.”

Quarterback Landon Whitley and running back Mitch Crandall followed up their impressive opening-night performances against Central Fellowship Christian Academy by combining for four touchdowns against Georgia Christian.

Whitley and Crandall both had two touchdown runs, and Ben Dixon had a pair of scoring runs as well.

Whitley also threw a 45-yard touchdown run to Cason Firth.

Nathan Fain made three extra-point attempts, and Whitley completed a two-point pass to Firth.

Lafayette Christian  also delivered a crushing performance on defense.

“Defensively, we were able to do a lot,” Shaw said.

Crandall had an interception in the first quarter that set the Cougars up in scoring position, and Shaw said the defensive linemen were dominant.

Once of those linemen was William Bailey, who recovered two fumbles.
