Cavaliers move up to second

They’re number two.

After opening the season with hard-fought wins over Opelika and LaGrange, the Callaway Cavaliers have climbed to second in this week’s Georgia Sports Writers Association Class AA poll.

Hapeville Charter, the defending state champion, remained number one after its convincing win over Heard County.

Three teams from Region 5-AA are ranked in the top 10.

While Callaway is second, Bremen is ranked third, and Heard County is seventh.

The Troup Tigers, who are 2-0, have made their debut in the Class AAAA rankings at number nine.

Cartersville, which will play Troup in the regular-season finale in a game that could determine the Region 5-AAAA championship, is ranked third.

Blessed Trinity, which won last year’s state title, is first in first in Class AAAA.

Colquitt County is ranked first in Class AAAAAAA, Lee County is a unanimous number one in Class AAAAAA, and Rome and Calhoun collected all of the first-place votes in Class AAAAA and Class AAA, respectively.

Clinch County is ranked first in Class A.
