Rams drop home opener

VALLEY, Ala. – The Point University Skyhawks built a 10-3 halftime lead, but it was Edward Waters surging in the second half for a 17-10 victory at Ram Stadium.

It was tied 10-10 when quarterback Derrick Jones scored on a 10-yard touchdown run, and that scored proved to be the game-winner.

Jones also threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Johnson in the third quarter that pulled Edward Waters even.

Derek Ballard, Point’s veteran quarterback, completed 8-of-20 passes for 198 yards, and he threw a touchdown pass to Chase Turner.

Quay Hartfield led Point’s rushing attack with 37 yards on 12 attempts.

Point did all of its scoring in the first quarter.

On their opening possession, the Skyhawks went 75 yards in five plays, and Ballard capped the drive with a 15-yard scoring pass to Turner.

Later in the quarter, the Skyhawks went on an eight-play, 70-yard drive that ended with a 22-yard field goal by Thristen Jackson.

Edward Waters got on the board with a 36-yard field goal by Christoni Robinson midway through the second quarter.

Edward Waters tied it in the third quarter on Jones’ 12-yard scoring pass to Johnson, and it took the lead with an eight-play, 88-yard touchdown drive in the fourth quarter.

Point will be back home on Saturday against Kentucky Christian.
