Mr. James W (Jim) King

James W (Jim) King, 81, of Valdosta, formerly of Greenville, Georgia, passed away on Sept. 14, 2018. Born on Aug. 31, 1937, in Decatur, Georgia.

He was the son of the late Mr. C H King and Mrs. Estelle Black King. Mr. King was a long-term resident of Meriwether and Troup Counties. He attended West Point Military Academy and graduated from the University of Georgia with degrees in journalism and mathematics. He was a member of the Chi Psi Fraternity.

He had three careers. As a journalist he worked for various newspapers including the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Also, during this time, he served a stint in the army. He later joined Callaway Mills/Milliken and worked in public relations, human resources and  sales. In his later years, he worked in commercial printing and retired from United Business Forms of LaGrange. He served three terms as director of the Printing Industry Association of Georgia.

Jim King is survived by his wife of 59 years, Martha Croll King of Valdosta; daughter, Kara Welch Bunte (Loren) of Valodsta, Georgia; son, J. Donovan King (Kimberly) of Valdosta, Georgia; grandchildren, Donovan King (Kaylee) of Atlanta, Georgia; Jacob King (Bailey) of Nashville, Tennessee; and William King of Jefferson, Georgia; Madison Welch, Jodan Bunte and Kassidy Bunte of Valdosta; nieces and nephews, Jon Williamson of LaGrange, Georgia; Brian Williamson, Linda Gosdin, Lisa Dodd and Ben Williamson of Meriwether County, Georgia. He is preceded in death by his sister, Miriam Williamson of Greenville, Georgia.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018, at the Carson McLane Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service.
