Callaway falls to Lamar County

The Callaway Lady Cavaliers had their hands full with Lamar County on Tuesday, falling 13-2 in a showdown for third place in Region 5-AA.

Lamar County grabbed the lead with four runs in the first inning, and it didn’t look back on the way to the blowout win in a game that was shortened to five innings because of the run rule.

Lamar County improved to 4-2 in region play, while Callaway fell to 3-4.

Callaway has three region games remaining in the regular season, including Thursday’s game at Heard County.

Callaway hosts Temple on Sept. 25 before completing region play at Bremen on Sept. 27.

In Tuesday’s game, Callaway managed single runs in the second and third innings.

Lamar County, after its four-run first inning, added four runs in the third inning, and five more in the top of the fourth.

Oeisha Jenkins had a double for Callaway, and Leijorey Sanders, Jasmine Dukes,  Alora Vetsavong and Lexi Furgerson each had a hit.
