LaGrange wins on senior day

It was a winning senior day.

LaGrange High’s softball team busted open a close game with seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on the way to a 9-2 victory over Sandy Creek on Tuesday in a Region 5-AAAA game.

LaGrange (16-5 overall) improved to 8-2 in the region and remained in third place behind Chapel Hill and Central-Carroll.

LaGrange will finish its region schedule with games against both of those teams.

Before Tuesday’s games, seniors Destiny Fitzpatrick, Shamiracle Mahone, Hannah Karcher, Kadaysha Griffin and Zykeria Brewer were recognized

LaGrange then went out and got a key region win to keep pace with Chapel Hill and Central-Carroll.

Camden Smith got the complete-game victory for LaGrange, and she limited Sandy Creek to one hit and one earned run with 10 strikeouts in seven innings.

Smith also contributed at the plate with two hits and an RBI.

Catcher Katelynn Mobley had a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning to get LaGrange on the board.

Mobley also walked and scored two runs, and Brewer, Karcher, Jacee Marable and Madison Dennis each had a hit and an RBI.

Leadoff hitter Malone Aldridge had a double and a run scored in the decisive sixth inning, Fitzpatrick had a hit and a walk, and Abby Vanhoose had a hit.

Sandy Creek tied it with a run in the top of the sixth, but LaGrange took control with seven runs in the bottom of the inning.

Marable’s run-scoring single gave LaGrange the lead, and Brewer, Vanhoose and Dennis, and Karcher followed with RBI hits.

Smith set Sandy Creek down in order in the top of the seventh to end it.

LaGrange will host Chapel Hill on Thursday.
