Local authorities are investigating after a person was hit and killed by a train near Hogansville Friday night.

Around 7:33 p.m. Friday night, the Troup County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the area of Bass Cross Road near Hogansville Road regarding a person hit by a train. According to a press release from TCSO, Troup County 911 was notified by CSX Police after train personnel called, saying they had hit something on the tracks.

After stopping the train to investigate, officials found a bandana and a cell phone case near the tracks. The victim’s body was located at 7:55 p.m. by the Hogansville Police Department.

All train traffic is stopped for the investigation, but no train crossings in the city of Hogansville are blocked, according to the Hogansville Police Department.

TCSO Sgt. Stewart Smith said it is possible a few train crossings in the county are currently blocked.

The victim’s identification is currently unknown. The incident is being investigated by the TCSO and CSX Police have also been notified.
