Painting the town pink Saturday

Paint the Town Pink and H.O.P.E for a Day Walk will be held Saturday to raise awareness for breast cancer. The 10-mile walk in downtown LaGrange is an event to support breast cancer survivors and is one of the most unique events in Troup County each year.

All of downtown is transformed as everything goes pink — even the water in the fountain at the square.

It’s a reminder of how people in LaGrange come together to support those who need it most.

Funds raised by the event go toward programs for “prevention, education, screening, testing treatment, and personal and financial patient assistance to those affected by the disease.”

The walk is held the last Saturday of September, and October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

According to Breastcancer.org, about one in eight women will develop breast cancer during her life.

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death, according to the American Cancer Society.

We all probably know someone who was diagnosed with breast  cancer. It’s a difficult disease to deal with, and any support goes a long way for patients.

Paint the Town Pink starts at 10 a.m. on Lafayette Square. We hope to see you there.
