It was a LaGrange High reunion in Athens.

Logan Moody and Jake Howard, who were teammates at LaGrange High, were together again last weekend during a game at Foley Field on the University of Georgia campus.

Howard is an infielder for North Georgia, and Moody is a pitcher for Georgia.

Those two teams met in a scrimmage game on Sunday afternoon, with Georgia winning 4-2 in 14 innings.

Howard played second base, and had two hits in three at-bats.

Moody, who has made the transition to pitcher after playing the outfield in previous years, threw one shutout inning.

There was a healthy contingent of well-wishers from LaGrange on hand for the game, including family members and friends of Howard and Moody.

One of them was Kevin Howard, Jake Howard’s father, and a long-time baseball coach who enjoyed a successful 14-year stint at LaGrange College.

Kevin Howard coached Jake and Moody during their days as youth-baseball players.

“It was really cool to see Jake playing, and Logan pitching,” Howard said. “It was kind of neat to see those guys together.”

Howard added that “a lot of students who went to school with Jake and Logan, a lot of their friends were there.”

Jake Howard will be a red-shirt sophomore during the 2019 season,.

Moody will be a red-shirt junior.

Howard played in 14 games last season with two starts, and he had three hits and four runs scored.

Moody was a part-time player in 2016 and 2017 as an outfielder, and he red-shirted last spring as he made the transition to pitcher.

Last summer, Moody pitched for the Oneonta Outlaws in New York, and he was one of his league’s top pitchers.

In Sunday’s scrimmage, Moody worked a perfect inning with a strikeout and two groundouts.

“He was throwing 92, and it was smooth and effortless,” coach Howard said.
