CARTERSVILLE – The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes scored on each of their first-half possessions to build a comfortable 31-0 lead, and they claimed a 45-7 victory over the visiting LaGrange Grangers on Friday night.

Cartersville, which hasn’t lost a regular-season game since 2014 and won state championships in 2015 and 2016, improved to 7-0 in 3-0 in Region 5-AAAA.

LaGrange, which hadn’t allowed more than 14 points in a game before Friday, fell to 1-5 overall, and 0-3 in the region.

LaGrange’s lone points came early in the second half when Vondez Taylor, a senior safety, picked off a pass near midfield and went the distance for the touchdown.

With its lead down to 31-7, Cartersville scored two more touchdowns to put it away.

LaGrange faces another unbeaten team next Friday in the Troup Tigers.
