The Callaway Cavaliers and Troup Tigers, who both won their state-playoff openers at Callaway Stadium, will be on the road next week for the second round of the state playoffs.

Callaway’s challenge is a substantial one.

After dispatching Elbert County in the first round, Callaway (9-2) will visit defending Class AA state champion Hapeville-Charter on Friday.

Hapeville-Charter (10-1) beat Coosa 32-10 to reach the second round.

Troup (10-1), which handled Oconee County 42-28 in its playoff opener, will visit unbeaten Pickens County (11-0) on Friday.

Pickens County breezed past White County 42-0 in its first playoff game.

The winners of next week’s games will advance to the state quarterfinals.

That’s nothing new for Callaway, which has made it to the quarterfinals or semifinals four times since 2009.

Callaway advanced to the quarterfinals last year before losing to Pickens County.

Troup is trying to reach the quarterfinals for the first time since 2003.
