Cougars secure come-from-behind win

The Lafayette Christian School Cougars rallied from a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to beat visiting LaGrange Academy 59-57 on Tuesday.

Trailing 55-45 with 4:30 left in the fourth quarter, the Cougars finished the game on a 14-2 run to secure the come-from-behind win.

Cameron Gisler and Matt Brooks led the Cougars with 16 points apiece, and Conner Gisler had 11 points.

Those three players combined for 10 3-pointers.

Riley Hess led the Warriors with 21 points, and he had 13 straight points in the fourth quarter to help his team build a 10-point lead before the Cougars charged back.

In the girls’ game, it was LaGrange Academy won 35-25.

Freshman Kelsey Cotton paced the visiting Lady Warriors with 13 points, eighth-grader Kayla McBride added 12 points, and Ivey Portis made two 3-pointers and scored six points.

Hana Stevens led Lafayette Christian with 12 points.

In preseason action on Tuesday, Troup’s teams traveled to Heard County and came away with wins.

Troup’s boys’ team won 45-36, with Quevo McFarland and Brandon Smith in double figures in scoring with 16 and 11 points, respectively.

In the girls’ game, Troup lost 54-47, and freshman Anaya Palmer led the way with 17 points.
