Betty Jean Strong Newson

Evangelist Betty Jean Strong Newson, of 1127 Hines Road, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2018, at WellStar West Georgia Medical Center. Betty, born in Troup County, was the daughter of the late Elmer and Cora Bell Strong.
She joined Wehadkee Baptist Church at a young age. In 1982, Bishop James T. Newson and Minister Betty Newson began their ministry and co-founded Jesus Christ House of Prayer and Revival Center. She was united in holy matrimony to Bishop James T. Newson, and in this union, they were blessed with two children, and they reared four other children.
Survivors include her devoted husband, Bishop James T. Newson; her daughter, Lakisa (Marlon) Jones; five step-children; two grandchildren; one great grandchild; sister, Mrs. Annie S. (Clifford) Parker; brother, Mitchell (Juanita) Strozier; aunts: nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; special friends, Evangelist Sherry Martin, Marie Bruce, Pamela Williams and Tommy L. Thornton.
Evangelist Newson was preceded in death by, in addition to her parents, a son, James Terry Newson, Jr. A home going celebration of life for Evangelist Betty Newson will be held on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Warren Temple U.M. Church. Pastor Brenda Clark is officiating. Pastor Deborah Holloway is the church pastor. Interment will follow at Southview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at her home.
