Local wrestlers shine at CRWA meet

There were plenty of local wrestlers on the podium.

The Chattahoochee River Wrestling Association tournament was held over the weekend in Carrollton, and 15 combined wrestlers from Callaway, LaGrange and Troup placed sixth or higher to return home with a medal.

The top local team was Troup, which placed sixth overall and had two individual champions.

Finishing first for Troup were Darious Hanson at 138 pounds, and Pearson Strickland at 126 pounds.

Also for Troup, Colby Harry was second at 285 pounds, and Mason Lumpkin placed fifth at 132 pounds.

LaGrange placed seventh overall, and it had six placers, including Colin Cavender, who finished second in his weight class and lost to a defending state champion from Alabama in the title match.

Also for LaGrange, Christian Whaley was third, Matt Callaway and Isaiah Coleman each placed fifth, and Hunter Brooks and Jacob Anderson were sixth.

For Callaway, Cameron Key placed third, Anthony Elliott was fourth, Ladarious Williams and Laquize Gilbert were fifth, and Curmondre Bray finished sixth.
