The Dariel Grind, named after the legendary wrestling coach who led Troup to numerous state championships, will be held on Friday in the Troup High gymnasium.

Central-Carroll, Harris County, Northside-Columbus, Northgate and Starr’s Mill will join Troup in the dual-format event.

Each team will wrestle four matches, and the team with the best record will be crowned the champion.

The first matches will begin at 5 p.m.

The first Dariel Daniel Grind was held in December of 2015, and it was created by then Troup wrestling coach Craig Garner.

Garner wrestled for Daniel and later coached alongside him, and he wanted to find a way to honor a man who means so much to Troup wrestling.

For the past three years, it was a two-day event, and each team wrestled nine matches.

This year, the field has been narrowed to five teams, and it will be a one-day event.
