Lavida Iverene Yates Childs, of LaGrange, passed away on Dec. 22, 2018, at the WellStar West Georgia Hospice. She was born on Feb. 5, 1923, to the late Arthur Yates and Ettie Yates Pitts in Barfield, Alabama. She worked as a battery hand at the Dunson Mills. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Hurston Childs; grandchild, Eric Maddox. Survivors include her daughters, Dorris Maddox (Sherry), Louise Geter (Dicky), Joyce George, Martha Purser (Ray); sister, Geneva Smith; grandchildren, Dinky Maddox (Imogene), Pastor Tommy Geter (Brenda), Mary Redd (Gary), Ken Whorley (Jamie), Carolyn Lukovich, Laura Robinson; eleven great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; extended family and friends.

Family received friends on Wednesday at 11 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. at the Higgins LaGrange Chapel. Pastor Tommy Geter officiated. Interment was held at Restlawn Memory Gardens.
