Special season for Callaway wrestlers

MACON – Callaway High’s wrestling team made history on Friday afternoon when it beat Lamar County 54-28 for its first ever victory in the state duals.

Unfortunately for the Cavaliers, their season came to a close with a 54-24 loss to the Dade County Wolverines later on Friday.

Callaway, which lost to Pepperell on Thursday in the opening round, finished with a 1-2 record in the Class AA state duals in Macon.

Callaway dominated Lamar County to secure its breakthrough victory.

Winners for Callaway included Curmondre Bray, Anthony Elliott, Jared Nation, Cameron Key, Anthony Taylor, Ladarious Williams, Jakwan Nunley, Jayvon Nunley and Laquize Gilbert.

In the Dade County match, Callaway’s winners were Key, Williams, Gilbert, Elliott and Nation.
