An 18-year-old man was found dead from a gunshot wound on Spring Street Tuesday morning.

The LaGrange Police Department found the body of Malenko Cooley in his vehicle on the 100 block of Spring Street on Tuesday around 12:58 a.m. The LPD received information from family members late Monday that Cooley, who had been reported missing from Valley, Alabama, might be in the area of Mooty Bridge Road near Walmart Road and could be in harm’s way.

According to a LPD press release, the initial investigation revealed that Cooley had been shot in the upper torso and died of his injuries. Lt. Dale Strickland with the LPD said the case is being investigated as a murder.

Strickland said Cooley was originally from LaGrange but was living in Newnan. He has family in Valley.
