Several new faces surrounded the table when the Visual Artists Alliance of LaGrange held its first meeting of the year on Thursday night.
The group discussed plans for exhibits at the LaGrange Art Museum, the Suffering Artist in Hogansville, the Hydrangea Festival Sip and Shop and the Hillside Art and Music Festival as well as some of the nuts and bolts of how to ensure that the artists and their work are visible in the community. That visibility can prove a difficult obstacle to overcome, whether the artist is a recent college graduate or a recent retiree. VAAL aims to help them overcome that obstacle.
“I hope we step into this new year with new breath and new vision,” VAAL President Thea McElvy said. “[I hope] we won’t stay stagnant, that we’ll have a lot of new members and support those who don’t think they can and can, just help people grow and have confidence.”
VAAL is still taking applications for the upcoming year.
