The Troup Tigers took a test run on Thursday, squaring off with Woodward Academy’s baseball team in a preseason scrimmage.

“I think it was a very productive day,” Troup head coach Craig Garner said. “It was good. It was mutually beneficial for both teams.”

Since it was a scrimmage game, the coaches for the two teams decided to script things out.

With the exception of the fifth inning, every inning began with runners on base.

In the fourth inning, for instance, each team began with the bases loaded.

Not surprisingly considering all the free base runners, it was a high-scoring game, with Woodward Academy outlasting Troup 16-13.

In a see-saw game, Woodward Academy took a 7-0 lead in the first inning. Troup rallied to take a 9-8 lead, but it was Woodward Academy getting the win.

“It was a good day,” Garner said. “We enjoyed it, and I think (the players) got a lot out of it.”

Colby Williams provided one of Troup’s top offensive highlights with a grand slam that cleared the center-field scoreboard.

Williams, a Kennesaw State signee who also pitched on Thuesday, finished with two hits.

Caleb McCurry and Colton Webb each had two hits, and Ethan Morton and Tre Mosley each had hits.

Seven pitchers appeared in the game, including freshmen Daniel Martin and Carson Garner.

Troup opens the regular season on Tuesday at Carrollton.
