Panthers open tournament play

The last time they met, LaGrange College’s women’s team beat rival Maryville College 71-59.

The Panthers are hoping to duplicate that performance on Wednesday in the opening round of the USA South tournament.

Maryville, the number four seed from the West division, will host the game, with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.

The winner will advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday to play Averett, the top seed from the East division.

This will be the third game between LaGrange College and Maryville this season.

In the first meeting, Maryville won 78-55 on its home floor.

In the rematch, LaGrange College celebrated senior day by beating Maryville 71-59.

That victory ended a 12-game losing streak to Maryville.

The Panthers (13-12 overall) finished the regular season with a 7-9 conference record.

LaGrange College had won two in a row before losing its regular-season finale to Covenant.

LaGrange College lost 58-55, despite an 18-point, 15-rebound effort from senior Marilauren Farr.

Farr is the Panthers’ leading scorer at 14.5 points per game, and Jahpera McEachin scores 10 points a game.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: LaGrange College closes the regular season with home games against Huntingdon today and Piedmont on Saturday.

LaGrange College (15-8 overall) fell to 11-5 in the USA South with Sunday’s 97-69 road loss to Maryville.

LaGrange College is in third place in the USA South West division.
