The Callaway Cavaliers will be on the road again.

Callaway will travel to Laney High School in Augusta on Wednesday for a quarterfinal matchup in the Class AA state tournament.

It will be Callaway’s third consecutive road game in the state tournament.

Callaway beat Banks County 86-83 in the first round before dispatching Chattooga 71-59 on Wednesday.

Laney (22-8) beat Brooks County 57-47 in the first round before edging Washington County 60-56 on Wednesday.

Laney, which won the Region 4-AA tournament, will bring a 13-game winning streak into next week’s game.

Callaway (14-11) earned its state berth by finishing third in the Region 5-AA tournament.

It will be another stern challenge for the Cavaliers, but head coach Terry Hayes isn’t worried about the ability of the players to handle the moment.

“We’ve played in big games, and that helps,” Hayes said. “They’re battle-tested.”

If Callaway beats Laney, it will face either Vidalia or South Atlanta in the semifinals.
