Pitching powers Grangers past Bears

GRIFFIN – Brant Williams and Matthew Morgan combined for a three-hit shutout as the LaGrange Grangers blanked the Griffin Bears 4-0 on Monday.

Williams got the start and he was terrific, throwing five innings while limiting Griffin to three hits.

Williams had three strikeouts and one walk.

Morgan finished things off with two dominant innings.

Morgan didn’t allow any hits or walks, and he had two strikeouts.

Offensively, Will Alford,  Trent Bailey and Williams each had two hits and an RBI.

Wesley Kuhn had a double, and Mason Green had a base hit.

It was a scoreless game when LaGrange took the lead with a run in the top of the fourth inning.

LaGrange added two runs in the fifth inning, and it capped the scoring with a run in the top of the sixth.

LaGrange will play four games in three days in the LaGrange Toyota Invitational.

First up will be Thursday’s game against Niceville (Fla.) at 7 p.m.

LaGrange will play South Forsyth on Friday at 7:30 p.m. before finishing pool play with Saturday’s game against Trinity Christian at 10 a.m.
