The West Point Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying the body of a man pulled from Moore’s Creek in Lanett.
The police department stated in a press release Wednesday that the body pulled from beside the Alfred Lyons Bridge on Friday was a white male, approximately 28 to 38 years of age. The male, who is being called John Doe, had brown hair and brown facial chin hair and was approximately 6-feet-4-inches tall. He also has a tattoo on his right bicep which read “Brandi 1988/1998.”
The body was sent to the Alabama Crime Lab pending an autopsy.
It appears the incident may have taken place on Feb. 20, 2019, as the West Point Police Department was contacted by an individual who reported they had observed a white male assaulted at a residence in the 1400 block of Avenue K. According to the press release, the complainant could not provide the victim’s name or the location of the victim at the time of the
complaint. However; the citizen did provide a date and approximate time of the incident as well as the names of the offending individuals in the assault.
Two men, Donald Freeman Kee Jr., 33, and Aaron Creed, 32, have been arrested and charged with murder in the case. In Wednesday’s press release, Kee is listed as from West Point and Creed is listed as from LaGrange. According to Troup County Jail records, both men list addresses in Hogansville.
According to the Troup County Jail arrest/release report from Feb. 26, Creed is also facing charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and items prohibited for possession by inmates. Creed was arrested by Troup County Sheriff’s Department Monday afternoon on the drug charge, according to Troup County Lt. Kelli Ellington. She said he was at his residence in Hogansville, and as deputies attempted to make contact, he fled on foot. After a quick chase with a K9, Creed was apprehended and taken to the Troup County Jail, where he was served with the warrant for murder.
The West Point Police Department is asking anyone who may have information related to this incident or the identity of John Doe to contact the West Point Police Department Criminal Investigation Division at 706-645-3525, Lanett Police Department at (334) 644-2146, your local Law Enforcement Agency department or the Troup County Crime Stoppers at (706) 812-1000.
