CSX to perform infrastructure maintenance across Troup County

On Tuesday, the Troup County Sheriff’s Office released information regarding on-going work by CSX that will close crossings at locations throughout Troup County and LaGrange.

The closures began on Monday.

“The temporary closures are related to routine maintenance work on the railroad, which is critical to help us maintain safe rail infrastructure and train operations,” said Sheriee Bowman, a CSX media representative. “As part of the rail maintenance work, crews will renovate several at-grade crossings and repave them to create a safe, smooth driving surface for motorists. CSX contractors typically coordinate with local or state officials (the roadway authority) on the traffic detours, and they place detour signs and message boards to help direct traffic around the closures. We appreciate the public’s patience as we complete these necessary improvements.”

Each road will be closed for possibly 2 to 4 days at a time, and while dates were not available for each crossing, the work has begun and is moving in a westerly direction. Proper closure and detour signage should be in place at each crossing.

Railroad crossings at the following locations will be impacted Lower Big Springs Road/Frost School Road, Smokey Road, Knott Road, Callaway Church Road, Depot Street, Main Street (LaGrange), Douglas Street, Callaway Avenue, Murphy Avenue, Jenkins Street, Vernon Road, Roanoke Road, Hearn Road, Whitley Road, Harmony Church Road and Williams Road.
