Callaway soccer teams fall short

Callaway High’s soccer teams came out on the short end against visiting Mount Paran on Friday night.
In the girls’ game, a strong Mount Paran squad took control early and rolled to a 9-0 victory.
In the boys’ game, Callaway got a goal with more than 31 minutes remaining to get within one, but Mount Paran netted the final two goals to win 4-1.
Mount Paran led 1-0 at the half, and it scored six minutes into the second half to go up 2-0.
A little more than two minutes later, the Cavaliers’ deficit was cut in half when Joe Neese scored on a break-away goal with 31:38 remaining.
It remained a 2-1 game until until Mount Paran made a penalty kick with 24:05 remaining.
Mount Paran capped the scoring with a goal with 8:35 to play.
Callaway’s teams will be on the road for a pair of Region 5-AA games next week.
Callaway plays Spencer on Tuesday, and Jordan on Friday.
Callaway’s teams are home again on March 18 against Lamar County.
