HOOVER, Ala. – The Troup Tigers pushed a run across in the top of the eighth inning to beat Coffee County 3-2 on Friday in the Perfect Game Showcase at Hoover High.

Cooper Doughman singled and later scored on a wild pitch to give the Tigers the lead, and Daniel Martin retired the Trjoans in the bottom of the eighth to finish it.

Troup, which pushed a powerful IMG Academy squad to the limit on Thursday before losing 2-0, improved to 1-1 in the tournament that features an elite 24-team field.

In Friday’s game, Jackson got the job done on the mound.

Knox started and pitched four innings, and he held Coffee County to two hits and one unearned run while striking out four.

Martin allowed three hits and one run, and he had three strikeouts and no walks.

Offensively, the Tigers had six hits against a pair of pitchers.

Colby Williams, Trace Meadows, Doughman, Caleb McCurry, Cade Garner and Ethan Morton each had a hit.

McCurry and Morton had RBIs, and Meadows, Doughman and Garner scored the runs.
