Callaway sweeps region doubleheader

TEMPLE – The Callaway Cavaliers made easy work of Temple on Friday, sweeping a doubleheader to improve to 4-2 in Region 5-AA.

After winning the first game 17-3, Callaway completed the sweep with a 15-0 victory.

In the first game, 12 different players had at least one hit as the Cavaliers put 17 runs on the scoreboard.

Trent Sheppard had two hits and four RBIs, and Braelin Mitchell had two hits and an RBI.

Andrew Lock also had a multi-hit game with two hits and an RBI.

Luke Swann had a hit and two RBIS, Austin Cardwell and Wesley Marchman each had a hit and an RBI, and Drake Wade, Eli Freeman, Kade Rogers, Hunter Williamson, Zach Neighbors and Bryce Kurian had one hit apiece.

Justin Moore was the starting pitcher, and he worked three shutout innings to get the win.

Austin Barber pitched two innings, and Zach Neighbors finished things off with two shutout innings.

In the second game, Walt Stewart and Dawson Wright combined for the one-hit shutout in a game that ended after four innings because of the run rule.

Stewart started and pitched three innings, and Wright worked the fourth and final inning.

Once again there were contributions from a bunch of different Cavaliers, with 11 different players getting hits.

Swann had two hits and three RBIs, Jabari Smith had two hits, Sheppard, Williamson and Lock each had a hit and an RBI, Rogers drove in a run, and Wade, Cardwell, Wright and Marchman each had a hit.

Callaway has a key region series against Lamar County next week.

Lamar County hosts a single game on Tuesday, and they’ll play a doubleheader at Callaway on Friday.
