It’s an uphill battle for the Callaway Cavaliers as they look to chase down Bremen for the top spot in Region 5-AA.

While Callaway is 4-2 in the region after sweeping Temple last week, Bremen is 8-1 in region play.

Bremen has the better region record, and it also has the tie-breaker edge over Callaway since it won two of three when the teams met two weeks ago.

In the third and deciding game of that series, Callaway had a 5-0 lead after two innings, but Bremen rallied for a 6-5 victory.

At this point, all Callaway can do is keep winning games and hope Bremen slips up at some point.

Even if the Cavaliers don’t catch the Blue Devils, they still have plenty to play for.

If Callaway finishes second in the region, it would host a first-round series in the state playoffs.

If Callaway falls to third or fourth in the region, it would have to go on the road for the opening round of the state playoffs.

Callaway can go a long way toward securing home-field advantage for the state playoffs by beating Lamar County this week.

Lamar County will host a single game today, and the scene shifts

Callaway for a doubleheader on Friday.

Callaway plays three games against Jordan next week before finishing region play with three games against Heard County.

Lamar County started region play with a bang by taking three games from Heard County, but it lost three games to Bremen last week to fall to 3-3 in the region.

Callaway (9-5 overall), coming off the tough loss to Bremen, had no trouble with Temple last week, winning the three games by a combined score of 46-4.
