BARNESVILLE – The Callaway Cavaliers were unable to solve Lamar County pitcher Jonah Stout on the way to a 3-1 road loss on Tuesday.

Stout pitched a complete-game four-hitter while striking out nine batters to lead his team to the Region 5-AA win.

Callaway fell to 4-3 in the region, and it will host Lamar County on Friday for a doubleheader.

The Cavaliers took the lead with a run in the top of the second, and the Trojans answered with two runs in the bottom of the third before completing the scoring with a run in the sixth inning.

Drake Wade, Trent Sheppard, Destin Patrick and Jabari Smith each had a hit for Callaway.

In the top of the second, Patrick had a two-out single, and Luke Swann reached on an error to keep the inning alive.

Patrick then scored on a balk to give the Cavaliers what turned out to be their only run.

Dawson Wright was Callaway’s starting pitcher, and he worked the first four innings, and he allowed four hits and two runs.

Zach Neighbors threw the final two innings, and he gave up one run on one hit with four strikeouts.

Wright and Neighbors combined to walk six batters.
