The LaGrange and Troup tennis teams will look to keep their seasons alive when they begin play in the Region 5-AAAA tournament on Wednesday.

The tournament was supposed to start on Tuesday, but it was pushed back a day because of weather concerns.

The two-day tournament, which is being contested in Cartersville, concludes on Thursday when the region champions will be crowned.

The top four teams on the girls’ and boys’ sides will qualify for the state tournament.

In the girls’ tournament, LaGrange is the number one seed, and it will have a first-round bye.

Fifth-seeded Troup and fourth-seeded Chapel Hill will meet at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, with the winner advancing to the semifinals to play LaGrange at 1:30 p.m.

In Wednesday’s other girls’ matches, second-seeded Cartersville will play Sandy Creek at 10 a.m., and third-seeded Cedartown will face sixth-seeded Chapel Hill at 11:30 a.m.

The winners of the semifinal match will play for the region championship on Thursday at 1 p.m., and the semifinal losers will play at 9 a.m. on Thursday for seeding purposes.

On the boys’ side, LaGrange is the number two seed, while Cartersville is seeded first.

LaGrange opens against seventh-seeded Sandy Creek, while sixth-seeded Troup will play third-seeded Chapel Hill at 11:30 a.m.

The winners of those two matches will meet in the semifinals at 2:30 p.m.

The championship match is Thursday at 2:30 p.m., and the third-place match is at 10:30 a.m.
