It’s been a special season for the Callaway Cavaliers, and they kept it going with a one-sided win over Rabun County in the opening round of the Class AA state tennis tournament on Monday afternoon.

Callaway had no trouble with Rabun County, winning four of the matches easily, and the fifth match was pulled since the outcome had already been decided.

Callaway will either host Gordon Central or travel to Atlanta to play Washington in the second round.

The Cavaliers finished second in Region 5-AA to earn their state berth, and with Monday’s win, they’re one of 16 teams left standing in the state tournament.

“They’ve worked hard,” Callaway head coach Jacob Brannen said. “We had a practice on Friday. We weren’t going to, and they asked if they could come out and practice. We got out here and got back to it. I couldn’t be more proud of them. They’ve come a long way from the beginning of the year to the end of the year.”

Alex Cho took care of business at number one singles for LaGrange, beating Ian Thompson 6-0, 6-1.

The number two singles match went the same way, with Henry Seonwoo dispatching Dawson Maney 6-2, 6-1.

At number three singles, Sir-Michael Johnson handled Gavin Page 6-2, 6-0.

In the number one doubles match, Jared Nation and Austin Ozley beat Sterling Darnell and DJ Koss 6-3, 6-3. At number one doubles, Jayvon Nunley and Matthew Martin were leading when the match was pulled.
