LaGrange is moving on.

Facing Oconee County in the opening round of the girls’ Class AAAA state tennis tournament on Monday afternoon, LaGrange eased to a 5-0 victory.

LaGrange, the number two seed from Region 5-AAAA, advances to play either Denmark or Heritage-Catoosa in the second round.

LaGrange would host Denmark, and it would be on the road if the opponent is Heritage.

In Monday’s match, LaGrange enjoyed a dominant effort, winning four of the five matches in straight sets.

Wone Mi Oh, who has held down the number one singles spot this season, beat Hollin Hargrave 6-0, 6-2.

At number two singles, Annie Pauley won the opening set against Lainey-Grace Frutiger 6-1, and she lost the second set 6-4.

The match went to a tie-breaker, and Pauley won 10-6 to secure the win.

At number three singles, Louise Dodson handled Sydney Crozier 6-0, 6-3.

In the number one doubles match, Lizzie Wilkerson and Sydney Edelson swept Ali Powell and Lexie Houston 6-2, 6-2.

The story was the same at number two doubles, with Kaylee Key and Ella Eiland taking care of Lizzie Durham and Lily Carter 6-3, 6-3.

LaGrange’s boys’ tennis team will begin its state journey today with a home match against St. Pius X at 4:30 p.m.

LaGrange finished second in Region 5-AAAA, and St. Pius is the number three team from Region 8-AAAA.

If LaGrange wins, it would face either Flowery Branch or Gilmer County in the second round.
