Emergency maintenance will take place on Georgia Highway 219, also known as Whitesville Road, starting on Thursday.

The maintenance will be taking place just north of Wood Valley Drive, according to a press release from the Georgia Department of Transportation. The road was damaged when flash floods impacted the area on Friday. GDOT said underground pipes were damaged and deteriorated the roadway just north of the intersection.

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City estimated that Troup County received between 3 and 5 inches of rain on Thursday and Friday, depending on exact location.

Crews will close Georgia 219 at the damage site north of the Wood Valley Drive intersection to accommodate the necessary work of reinstalling the large pipes and laying new asphalt on the roadway. The closure is expected to last through Wednesday, May 1.

A detour will be installed to direct vehicles like tractor trailers and large trucks to utilize Georgia 18 and Interstate 85 around the closure. Detour signage will be placed at several points on Georgia 219, Georgia 18, Georgia 103 and Interstate 85 to alert motorists of the closure. Drivers of smaller vehicles and local residents will be able to utilize county roads to maneuver around the work site.
